Carpet flooring wisdom: facts vs fiction

Carpet floors will always be popular but, like anything that's in such high demand, there are a lot of misconceptions out there. We're here to address facts. A family-owned company, Britt's Carpet Outlet has been working with carpet for over 40 years. We're the largest carpet retailer in South West Florida with an inventory that includes 100 large rolls and over 300 styles. You can also express your style using any of our 400 remnants and letting our carpet binding department create them for you. Additionally, we're a full-service company, meaning that we provide services like rug binding and installation.

Our showrooms are located in Ft. Myers and Cape Coral and we service Cape Coral, North Fort Myers, Pine Island, Punta Gorda, Lehigh Acres, Estero and Bonita Springs, FL.

It's best to use a professional installer

Installation does require special tools and skills. Additionally, there may be some needed subfloor repair and preparation, so it's best to trust such an important task to licensed professionals.

The truth about this flooring

  • It's fine to install soft surfaces, even when there are residents who have allergies or asthma and there are precautions you can take to make them safer. The fibers trap dust mites, pollution, particles, and other undesirables. They stay there until the rug is professionally deep-cleaned. Vacuuming alone doesn't remove them; only the powerful machines used by professionals can scrub adequately.

  • It does not make you feel hotter! Rugs are good temperature insulators; if the room is already chilly, so will be the floor. Alternatively, if the room is warm, you will feel cozy.

  • Rugs are long-lasting. It's like anything else; the better you care for it, the longer it will last. If you let stains set or if you don't use professional cleaning, it will be matted down and will always look dirty.

  • You can have it if you have pets. Modern technology is constantly evolving and creating ultra-durable, stain and spill-resistant rugs, some of them having built-in stain protectants. Be sure to tell the retailer if you have any of these issues.

  • Padding is important. You can't see it, but the cushioning is what protects the rug. It ensures a tight installation and a smooth floor.
